Building History

Originally constructed to accommodate participants of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, this building now operates under BC Housing as an affordable housing residence. It continues to serve the community by providing safe and comfortable living spaces for its residents.

Challenge

Due to the small unit sizes and large window surfaces, residents experienced extreme heat exposure during the summer months, even with dual-pane windows in place. Many units lacked air conditioning, making conditions unbearable during hot weather. Traditional cooling solutions were not financially feasible, prompting the need for a cost-effective and efficient alternative to improve comfort and safety.

Heat Rejection: The installed window film helps block a significant amount of solar heat, keeping indoor spaces noticeably cooler during summer.
Reduced Cooling Demand: By lowering heat transfer, the film reduces A/C usage, easing the system’s workload and improving efficiency.
Energy Savings: Less cooling demand translates to lower energy bills and reduced strain on HVAC equipment, extending system life.
Enhanced Comfort: The film minimizes hot spots, glare, and radiant heat near large windows, creating a more balanced and comfortable environment for residents.
